EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe in theory-based instruction, which is strategic in nature. I focus on developing a cooperative context that creates collaborative learning opportunities. I promise to teach to the individual learner in each child, and use a variety of modes in order to engage and motivate, while giving explicit and systematic instruction that aligns with curriculum and standards. My philosophy is student-centered and will ensure comprehension and retention
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I am currently taking continuing education classes at the University of Phoenix. These courses are Masters-plus level, and focus on content area reading and writing strategies and methods, as well as literature. I have a Masters degree in education, and Bachelors degree in English, and a Secondary (7-12) English Education teaching certification.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught English and Language Arts to students in the seventh, ninth, and eleventh grades. I have taught inclusion classes, as well as at-risk students. I have taught on learning teams, developed curriculum to address Ohio’s learning standards and the Accelerated Reader program, as well as students’ organization, responsibility, self-direction, and motivation, including social, historical, and cultural knowledge and growth.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am a mother of two daughters, seven and eleven, with whom I took time off from my teaching career to raise up until this point. I am an avid reader and I love to sew, knit and crochet. I am an amateur fitness buff, and like to run as well as do workout videos. I love to travel, especially to California, where I have family and friends.
