Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Campbellsville District Curriculum
Campbellsville Independent Schools implements the Kentucky Core Academic Standards for all curriculum except for English language arts and math, where it follows the Common Core Standards. In elementary school, students learn to count from 1 to 100, and begin to learn the relationship between numbers and quantities. In middle school, they learn geometry basics like number lines and coordinate systems; in high school, students will have learned functions and complex equations.
Taylor County School District follows a unique curriculum with their Performance Based Education model used in its 3 schools. This model places students in classes based not on their age (as is the standard for most schools) but by their academic abilities. This is determined by an assessment test students take as they move through elementary, middle, and high school. The district successfully implemented this new model as characterized by the high level of graduation rates.

Chalk Talk: How to Get the Best Out of Your Tutoring Experience
Many students in high school benefit from having a tutor help them through a difficult subject, and there is no shame in asking for help when you need it. If you find yourself struggling, research tutors who are experienced in your subject matter; the earlier you get a tutor, the better, so you don’t find yourself backtracking with material that you didn’t understand early on. During your session, ask questions and engage your tutor in the material that you struggle with most. Point out problem areas to your tutor, such as fractions in math, or Spanish vocabulary, so that you can get the most out of the session. If you have homework, prepare by identifying problems that you need help with most before the tutor arrives so that you plunge into the most important material right away. Lastly, enjoy the tutoring experience as you can form a strong bond between tutor and tutee.
