EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that learning happens optimally when students feel challenged and supported. I aim to provide an environment in which the student feels comfortable, safe, and supported, yet challenged to the extent of his or her abilities. In order to establish this safe learning zone, I focus on positive reinforcement, genuine interaction, and confidence building.
Once the student feels confidence in me as their teacher and, more importantly, their own capabilities, they are better able to handle challenging material. They develop strong problem solving skills as they become more self sufficient and assured of their own ability.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History with concentration in the field of Secondary Education from Grand Valley State University in April 2012.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have over 5 years experience as a student teacher, teaching assistant, teacher and tutor.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I like to read a good book, write poetry and short stories. Throughout high school and college, I published and performed poetry. I love to hear other people’s stories. I’ve been a pet lover since I was a child. In total, I have had five dogs, eight cats, two guinea pigs, a rabbit, a cockatiel, three beta fish, and an innumerable amount of hamsters. Nothing makes me smile harder than seeing pictures of cute animals.
