EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that my goal as a teacher is to inspire kids to ask thoughtful questions and to have the confidence and the skills to tackle those questions. Students in my classes are encouraged to make mistakes because that is there the best learning happens. I often hear from my students that learning is fun in my class, this is because I integrate their interests into my lessons to ensure they are engaged and retain the information they are trying to learn.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I took a 4 year Undergraduate degree at the University of Windsor with a double major in Visual Arts and Communication Studies. I then took 5 years off to travel and teach at an outdoor center. Three years ago I completed my Bachelors in Education at Queens University with a focus in Outdoor Experiential Education and have been teaching ever since.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
For 5 years, I taught outdoor education in the Canadian Rockies to schools that came out for one week to complete the science component of the curriculum. I also taught grade 6 for 2 years in Haiti at an International School to a diverse group of kids who spoke various languages and had various backgrounds.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am an active person and get outside as much as possible- whether it be coaching on the volleyball court, playing Ultimate Frisbee or running 5km. I also take an active interest in professional development and have recently completed a Reading course and a course called “Teaching Character & Creating Positive Classrooms” to ensure my teaching skills stay current.
